The love of Data, Database Engineering, Architecture, Entrepreneurship, and other assorted bits
Hello, my name is Kenny Gorman. I dig database systems, data, streaming data, development and being an Entrepreneur. I love vi, python, vue.js, Java, MongoDB, Apache Flink, PostgreSQL, and yes, the Oracle RDBMS.
At MongoDB I work on creating useful and powerful streaming and stream processing components centered around MongoDB and the MongoDB development community.
I was previously the Co-founder and CEO at Eventador.io in Austin TX. Eventador.io is an enterprise-grade streaming data platform that allows you to write, deploy, and manage stream processing at massive scale. Eventador was acquired in 2020 by Cloudera Inc.
I was previously Chief Technologist; Data - Office of the CTO at Rackspace and Co-Founder of ObjectRocket; a MongoDB as a Service. In 2012, ObjectRocket was acquired by Rackspace.
Kenny has decades of experience with various data platforms behind some of the busiest companies in the world. He has had roles as CEO, Principal Product Manager, Chief Architect, Senior Director, Manager, Developer, and DBA.
He is an active member in the PostgreSQL community and scaled Hi5 from just a few servers to dozens running multi-terabyte workloads on SSD and SAN backends. He has contributed to the early versions of pg_reorg and wrote the pgstat2 utility and other tools and performance techniques.
He has been an active MongoDB community member, speaker, MongoDB evangelist, and previous Mongo Master. He was an extremely early adopter of MongoDB version 1 at Shutterfly and wrote the initial version of the mongostat utility. In 2011 he Co-Founded MongoDB as a Service provider ObjectRocket with colleagues from eBay. As ObjectRocket’s Chief Architect - ObjectRocket launched numerous innovative products including auto-scaling, auto-compaction, and more. Rackspace acquired ObjectRocket in 2012.
He is active in the Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, and streaming communities - speaking at conferences and participating in community events. SQLStreambuilder, Eventador’s flagship product is built using Apache Flink. As the CEO of Eventaor, he grew the team from just the two founders and successfully raised a seed round of funding with Live Oak Venture Capital as the lead. He led Eventador from inception to a successful acquisition by Cloudera in 2020.
Currently, Kenny is Principal Product Manager, Streaming at MongoDB Inc. He is laser-focused on continuing to build innovative services to power the next generation of applications that must aggregate, mutate, filter, and join data in real-time.
